The bookcase … nowadays the most portrayed part of the house!

In this time of working from home, so many videoconferences call for a beautiful bookcase in the background. A bookcase gives a sense of professionalism (even if we are wearing slippers under the desk…)

But is that all? No… a bookcase is so much more than that!

Decoratively speaking, the bookcase is an essential element for every home. It is undoubtedly useful for storing books, but it is also an excellent piece of furniture that helps make our home welcoming. It sets the tone for the feel of the room.

But a bookcase is even more than that too.

It tells about us. It is the container of our passions, interests, taste, feelings, emotions, and memories Bookcases represent our way of living and our life.

It does not matter if it is a simple shelf in a plasterboard niche or a giant bookcase, as long as it blends nicely into the room and shows the right balance between our style and functionality. Therefore, an accurate selection of the size, the materials, and the place is paramount. We have to carefully evaluate where it is going to be and what we need it for. Just books and various objects or will it also be an entertainment unit? These are considerations to be made before falling in love with something that does not correspond to our needs. Additionally, we have to consider how to enhance the content!

We do not necessarily have to go for expensive custom-made bookcases. There are bookcases of large retail stores that, chosen with careful attention to the measures and materials, will be equally beautiful and add to our room’s appearance.

Among all the other things you need to consider, there is the color of the bookcase, of the wall behind it, and…

The Charming Tip:

If you want to achieve a particular effect in your room, you need to consider the books’ color. Every bookcase also has the color of the books that are inside!

As I mentioned in other posts, color is a crucial element in decorating.

In the images in this post, what are the color of the bookcases? The two bookcases below would have the same effect with bright blue, red, yellow, and green books? The feel and the mood of the room would be totally different.

When looking at a catalog, take a moment to pay attention to the color of books in a bookcase (or clothes in a wardrobe). You will notice that all the books or the clothes have the same color or have a specific color palette. What are the chances that in our home we have only books with covers of the same color? Or that we dress only in white and beige (the most used colors in wardrobes pictures!)?

Some bookstores sell for a few cents books with covers of the same color. You do not need to go that far, but some attention to combining (or mixing up) the books according to their covers is undoubtedly advisable. And if there is a color that doesn’t match your color palette, a door will do the trick while being an excellent way to create some movement in the bookcase.

Mind you: all different colors are a palette as well, if you choose so!

Your room’s mood would be less relaxed and more active, lively, and of course, colorful!
